3 - Exercise! Walking daily is my way, along with Qigong!
(Get outside, go for a walk, a run, a swim, do some gardening, whatever turns your fancy! Just get out and do something, you will feel better, physically and mentally! 
Now, I know that a lot of people are city dwellers and not as fortunate as myself, to live in the north, or the country, where the air seems much fresher and the sites and sounds of nature abound, making a daily walk a meditative experience. So for those that strive for this type of healthy living but live in a big city where this experience is not as readily available, you must be much more creative, find alternative ways to experience overall health and wellness. 
Meditating is an awesome way to release and regenerate your whole being! 
This can be done in the safety and comfort of your own home where you can let down the protective shield and experience so many benefits! Qigong is my ultimate favorite way to exercise, meditate and rejuvenate my mind, body and spirit all in one place with one product! As I have said already, walking is an awesome way for any age to benefit from and when you live in the city, walking in pairs or groups is advisable not only for safety features but this also allows you to drop the protective shield and experience so much more!)

If you have taken a basic biology lesson, you will know that cells require certain conditions to function normally, temperature and pH must be precise in order to support our bodies, our life. Our body, though it seems sturdy and above this law, is of no different. It requires basic conditions in order to have optimal performance. When our human body is functioning at its optimal level, human bodily fluids and tissues exist in a slightly alkaline state, not acidic. 
The food we eat often becomes the raw material to rebuild its tissue. Our pH balance can quickly become unbalanced if our diet consists largely of "acidifying" foods. 
It is amazing how much our daily food habits have changed with the times. Fast food, processed food, GMO foods and more have taken hold on society and blinded it to the long term effects of eating these health killing products. 
It comes as no surprise that so many are suffering from different types of allergies, bone diseases, heart problems, obesity etc. Some health experts link these diseases to the type of foods we eat and certain types of foods that disrupt a certain balance in our body that, during such instance, health problems arise. So changing our eating habits and the way we think about food, can aid in the prevention of diseases, help us lose weight and restoration of health is achieved. Cool! I like that way of thinking! You?  

The importance of alkaline in our body is needed to maintain a healthy and steady alkaline to acid ratio, which is marked by the pH level of our body. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14 and anything lower than 7 is considered acidic. Acidosis, abnormally high acidity level in the blood and other tissues of the body, which is most often caused by processed foods, meat, sweets, sugary drinks etc, produce excessive amounts of acidity in the body and is the one thing that several different diseases have in common. Many health experts believe that this is responsible for most of the fatal diseases so many are afflicted with these days, like depression, hyper-acidity, ulcers, skin dryness, acne and obesity are some of those linked to excessive acid levels in the body. Then there are those that are more serious such as joint diseases, osteoporosis, bronchitis, frequent infections and heart diseases. 
Alkaline, on the other hand, naturally occurs in the body to neutralize excess acidity in the body, which is its main role. However, alkaline also becomes depleted at times, especially when there is too much acid it needs to get rid of and we do not consume foods that replenish our body's alkalinity.   
Determining whether or not your pH levels are prevalently alkaline, can be done with easy-to-use pH level strips. 
You can purchase these strips in drug stores or medical supply stores. There are pH level strips meant for testing using your saliva, and there are those for using your urine. A saliva pH level strip will determine how much acid your body is producing, which is normally between 6.5 and 7.5 during the day. The urine pH level strip will tell you how well you excrete excess amounts of acid, which you should get between 6.0 and 6.5 in the morning and between 6.5 and 7.0 at night time. How do you know whether your body is acidic and requires your attention?
You would first need to ask yourself whether you experience any of the symptoms:   

  • Pimples/Acne
  • Agitation
  • Rapid panting breath
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Muscular pain
  • Pre-menstrual and menstrual cramping
  • Pre-menstrual anxiety and depression
  • Cold hands and feet
  • Light headedness and dizziness
  • Exhausted easily and low energy
  • Joint pains that travel
  • Food allergies
  • Excessive gas
  • Hyperactivity
  • Lack of sex drive
  • Bloating
  • Heartburn and acid reflux
  • Yellow and strong smelling urine
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • White coated tongue
  • Hard to get up in morning
  • Excess head mucous (stuffiness)
If you are experiencing more than 2 of the symptoms listed here, there is a high chance that your body is acidic and you may want to take precaution and educate yourself to reverse any of the problems already created.  To help aid in this, you must bring the pH level back to normal. There are alkaline foods that can help replenish the alkaline levels while neutralizing excess amounts of acid and with an alkaline diet you can re-introduce sufficient amounts back into the body, which then brings back the pH level to predominantly alkaline.   
An awesome way to start to incorporate an alkaline diet into your eating habits, is to cut down and eventually eliminate processed foods. These foods contain chemicals that increase the acidity of your body once digested. 
Also, try to steer clear of meat and meat products, dairy and alcohol and load up on fresh organic fruits and vegetables, as they are naturally high in alkalinity. A note about acidic fruits like oranges and lemons, they become alkaline after they have been digested and absorbed by the body, so keep these in your diet. As a general rule, 75% of your daily food intake should consist of alkalizing foods, as the more alkaline foods we provide our bodies with, the more efficient the neutralization of excess acids will be and the healthier and happier you and your body will be!

Heal your body as you sleep! Starting Nov 12/12! 

Do you meditate? If you answered no, guess again! Every night you go to sleep you engage in the most natural form of meditation your body can experience, says Qigong master and healer Chunyi Lin, creator of Spring Forest Qigong.
"Sleeping is a natural form of meditation and a form of Qigong," he says, 
"It's the perfect way to balance yin and yang energy in the body."
Traditional Chinese Medicine says too much yang energy or too much yin energy can cause blockages in the body's energy channels and lead to health problems.
"But 'Qi sleeping' helps to balance your energy. During sleep, the energies of the heart, mind, body, and spirit unite," Chunyi says. "It's so wonderful because you are practicing Qigong while you sleep!"
To help you sleep like a baby—and fine-tune your energy while you do it—consider these tips from Chunyi:
• Exercise daily to detoxify acidic energy in the body. Walking, slow running, weight lifting, Qigong, yoga, 
or tai chi can all help you go deeper into sleep so the body can balance more quickly.
• Eat a light meal in the evening, and stop eating two hours before bed.
• Consider eating a small baked potato as part of your evening meal. This calms the energy of the brain and    pancreas, helps balance hormone energy, and helps the body relax.
• Don't drink any tea, coffee, or alcohol at least two hours before bed.
• Avoid watching violent movies or TV shows before sleep. "As you sleep, those images are still processing in your brain, in every cell in your body," Chunyi says, "It can prevent you from having a peaceful sleep."
• Before bed, take a hot bath filled with a handful of sea salt, or soak your feet in a basin of hot water with three tablespoons of sea salt.
• Go to sleep and wake up the same time every day to allow your body to align with its natural body clock.
• Sleep on your right or left side or on your back. This helps balance the Qi better.
When sleeping on your side bend your knees, Chunyi says, "and sleep like a shrimp, or like a baby in the womb."
Avoid sleeping on your stomach, which can cause your neck to twist and energy blockages to develop gradually in your body.
• Put a smile on your face as you close your eyes. Smiling causes your brain to send out endorphins that help you feel good.
• Visualize you are sleeping in the cradle of the moon.
• Relax your body from head to toe, breathing slowly, deeply, and gently.
• Focus your attention on your lower dantian, the energy center deep behind the navel. Imagine bright, loving energy there. Send unconditional love energy to your lungs and to any part of your body where you have pain. Allow your body to feel the love.
• Send a message to your body. For example, say to yourself, 
"Tonight I will sleep in eight hours of Qigong meditation. Tomorrow when I wake, all my channels are open. All the blockages in my body are gone. I am completely healed, and I feel happy and healthy."
• When you wake in the morning, don't spring out of bed right away. Lie still as you take three deep breaths. Then rub your hands and massage your face. Massage your ears. Then get up and enjoy your day.
"When you sleep well and feel peace in your body," Chunyi says, "every cell has time to rejuvenate. 
The next morning you wake up with good energy and are ready to go!"

Here's why your pain won't go away:

As you get older your production of the enzymes that reduce your inflammation decrease, so your pain goes away slower, and slower as you age.
